So.. I'm getting all my gear loaded up and bags packed for the Vegas trip. On the 2nd I will be driving from Tucson AZ to Las Vegas NV and plotting my trip via my GPS on this site. This will be the ultimate beta test of the software and the server. Still debating the interval at which I want to log... probably 1 min intervals, maybe less. I already picked up a power inverter for the car.. I need to get a USB cable extension to mount my camera on the dashboard.
Today I ordered a GPS USB dongle for my laptop. At first I thought they would be expensive, but I managed to find a BU-353 for about 40$ including shipping.
The BU-353 is supposed to be one of the best GPS receivers out right now. It utilizes the SiRF Star III which makes tracking super accurate. It also acquires positions pretty fast. I remember my old E-trek Vista took about 2 minutes to get its first position.. this should track in a matter of seconds. BU353 is also waterproof, which means I can mount it outside my car if I want.. (on top of a boat, motorcycle too - but I don't own these)
